We wish to acknowledge the elders, past and present, of the Gadigal people, the traditional Indigenous people of this region of Australia.
Here at Peg Leg, we strive to be the best in everything we do. Be it the drinks, food, music, slickness of service, atmosphere; it is all aimed to provide the best possible service experience for our guests. The bar’s design and guiding inspiration begins with the first European explorers and spice traders to venture here to Australia. The Dutch, who introduced Europe to sugarcane from Indonesia and commercialized cinnamon from Sri Lanka, nutmeg from Indonesia, who also explored the north, west and south coast of our (not so little) island in 1616 and called it New Holland. The British, who arrived in 1770, introduced Australia (as it was later renamed) to Gin, Rum, Port, Sherry, Champagne, IPA’s and Vegemite, all by the happy historical accidents of their extensive nautical adventures. Today we remember these great explores and their contribution to modern culture in our drinking & dining den in the heart of Pyrmont. We hope their restless spirits are proud of our wee tribute to them.
This location is the home of Pyrmont’s first Hotel/ Pub, dating back to 1856. We are honoured to keep her alive and a vibrant part of the Pyrmont community.
We are not snobs. Here at Peg Leg we serve a large cross section of people. Pyrmont locals, the media industry, theatre community, journalists, creatives, advertisers, hospitality professionals, the Riot Business Crew, Googlers, city ants, bigwigs, tradies, wanker bankers and hedonists of all sorts. All are welcome aboard our jolly little Pirate Pub. Our people; People about town; People in the know. Why this large array people? We don’t discriminate. This is one of our fundamental rules. The drinks and food are reasonably priced, so we don’t exclude those who can’t afford to pay $25 for a fancy Daiquiri, but would like a great drink.
The staff at Peg Leg take great pride in their work; behind the bar and in front of it. This is seen in their extensive product knowledge, their professionalism, and their customer service. The key here is to do everything that does not need be pointed out, to learn how to fit things together perfectly. Our aim is not only to meet but exceeding our guest’s service expectations. The little details make the greatest difference.
